Looking to upgrade your roof to some amazing Colorbond® steel? The most important thing to learn first is ‘how much does a Colorbond® steel roof cost?’. Here’s everything you need to know!
Different types of Colorbond® roofing
There are a few different types of Colorbond® roofing you can buy. In fact, when you start looking at different metal roofing profiles, the list expands even further. However, in terms of the basic types of Colorbond® steel roofing you can buy without any profile alterations, the list is as follows:
- Corrugated iron or steel: This is the cheapest Colorbond® roofing material, however, it is more often used on sheds and smaller structures rather than houses.
- Powder-coated Colorbond®: Powder-coated Colorbond® is the most popular type used for homes. The powder-coating gives the metal its anti-rust properties and makes it resistant to corrosions, warping, cracking and other forms of heat and weather damage.
- Double-sided Colorbond®: This type is more often used for covering open spaces such as decks and patios. This is because there’s more potential for UV and other weather conditions causing damage to the underside of the roof in an exposed setting.
- Colorbond® Ultra: If you’re living in a coastal environment between 100m and 200m from breaking surf, you’ll want to upgrade to Colorbond® Ultra. This provides additional protection against salt water spray and corrosion.
The type of roofing you choose will largely depend on your location, the style of your home and your budget. It’s always best to consult roofing professionals before making a choice, because they may have advice specific to your needs.
Colorbond® roofing prices
As you can see, there are certainly many different types of Colorbond® out there. But how much does Colorbond® roofing cost? Well, the prices vary depending on the type you choose, and of course, there may be fluctuations in price depending on the roofing contractor or materials supplier you chose.
Here is a guide for what you can expect to pay for Colorbond metal roofing.
- Corrugated iron or steel: $13 – $18 per m2
- Powder-coated Colorbond®: Approx. $22 per m2
- Double-sided Colorbond®: Approx. $24 per m2
- Colorbond® Ultra: Approx. $37 per m2
Total costs including labour
Of course, the costs above are simply for the metal roofing materials. The full cost of installing a new roof also includes labour. You’ll also find there are some other costs involved if you’re replacing an old roof, but we’ll touch on that later. Some roofing contractors charge by the hour, usually in the range of $50 – $80 per hour. Others charge per square metre, usually between $40 – $60 per m2.
Here are the standard total costs for Colorbond® roofing, including installation.
- 100 – 150m2: $5,300 – $14,550
- 150 – 200m2: $7,950 – $19,400
- 200 – 300m2: $10,600 – $29,100
- 300 – 400m2: $15,900 – $38,800
The scope for pricing may seem quite large, but each figure is based on the range between the cheapest and most expensive Colorbond® roofing. Before you start budgeting though, it’s important to remember that the complexity of the roof type will also make a difference in the labour cost. Also, access to the roof can also affect labour costs. Typical suburban properties are a lot easier to work on than inner-city properties.
Complete roof replacement costs
If you need to replace an old roof, there will be some added costs to cover the time spent removing old materials and checking structural integrity, and also disposing of the old roof. It’s a lot cheaper to replace existing metal roofing with new Colorbond® than it is to replace a tile roof or asbestos roof with Colorbond®.
